We are part of The Trust Project

This past Friday Arnold Clinton, the assistant athletic director at White Plains High School, passed away after a short illness. His son Adrian Clinton, who is currently a senior at his father’s alma mater, survives Clinton, a 1980 graduate of White Plains High School.

Clinton was a very skilled athlete during his high school years at White Plains. He still holds varsity football records for career receptions and yards gained. According to White Plains Varsity Football Coach Skip Stevens, Clinton was an all-county football player and all-section wrestler. As a wrestler he holds schools records for most pins, total points scored and most wins at individual tournaments. Clinton played college football at Morgan State University.

He was a member of the White Plains Athletic Department for at least the last 24 years. Clinton coached at every level in the Tigers football program from modified all the way up to varsity. For several years he was also the school’s varsity wrestling coach.

White Plains Athletic Director Chip Salvestrini said, “As a department we will miss him.”

Before the boys varsity basketball game this past Friday against Scarsdale there was a public moment of silence in honor of Clinton. The public address announcer mentioned that Clinton was important in helping the athletic department in putting the sports schedules together and arranging transportation for all athletic teams.

“Arnold was a very dedicated hard-working man who wanted things done the right way,” said Stevens. “He wasn’t one of those guys who was bubbly or warm and fuzzy he was very straight laced commanding personality. Commanding by just the way he conducted himself.”

Clinton loved being around kids and high school sports. “He loved coaching,” said Stevens.
