Diana, Paganelli Left Standing for Yorktown Highway Superintendent
It appears the hotly contested race for Yorktown highway superintendent has been whittled down to two candidates following Democratic and Republican primaries Tuesday night.
According to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections, Democratic Committee choice Thomas Diana also appealed to Democratic voters as he received 419 votes with 41 out of 43 voting districts reporting.
Finishing a close second was Steve Gardner with 381 votes and a distant third was Virgil Borrelli with 166 votes.
In the GOP race, Councilman Dave Paganelli, who lost the Republican Committee nomination by one vote in May, turned the tables on former Councilman Gregory Bernard in the primary. Paganelli received 496 votes, comfortably ahead of Bernard, who garnered 391 votes. Ray Nikisher finished third with 172 votes.
Diana, a retired police detective and owner of an area oil delivery and service company, will also appear on the Independence line, while Paganelli seems to have locked up the Conservative line, although absentee ballots have yet to be tabulated.
