Yorktown Trash Hauler Under Fire for Illegally Parking Trucks

We are part of The Trust Project

The Town of Yorktown’s rookie trash hauler could be facing fines for illegally parking its garbage trucks on a town-owned piece of property off Front Street without a special permit.

Last week, Yorktown’s Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously gave the go-ahead for the Building Department to prosecute Competition Carting in court after the company failed to appear for the second consecutive month or submit a site plan.

Soon after Competition Carting was awarded the garbage pickup services from the Town Board for cost saving reasons in January, the company began illegally parking its trucks on Richard Place and was issued a violation notice from the town.

The notice was put on hold after Competition Carting filed an application for a required permit. However, after the company was a no-show at a May 23 meeting, the ZBA sent a letter on June 4 informing them if they did not appear on June 27 their application would be considered withdrawn and they would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Competition Carting’s main office is in JeffersonValley near Navajo Fields off Route 6.
