Southeast Man Charged in Connection to False Report

We are part of The Trust Project

An arrest has been made after a person falsely reported a violent attack at a group home in Southeast on Nov. 20.

Christopher Lopez, 30, of Southeast was charged with falsely reporting an incident, a class A misdemeanor, in which he placed an anonymous telephone call on Nov. 20 claiming a group home on John Simpson Road was violently attacked by an armed assailant, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.

Because of that phone call hoax, a large-scale police response ensued and forced the closure of John Simpson Road near the home for three hours, snaring traffic for that duration.

Lopez was also charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony, in an unrelated incident where he allegedly kicked and knocked a female nurse to the floor at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel. That incident occurred the same day and just hours after the accused false report.

After being arraigned in Town of Southeast Justice Court, Lopez was sent to Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of a $500 cash and $1,000 bail bond. As of Nov. 25, he remained in jail.
