No. Castle Public Library Partially Closes Children’s Room for Renovations

We are part of The Trust Project

The Children’s Room at the North Castle Public Library in Armonk has been partially closed through Tuesday, Jan. 20 for renovations.

The work, the first significant update of the children’s area in more than 25 years, will take place over the next 60 days. The renovation will yield a more open and engaging space for all children.

In the renovation’s first phase, a new colorful reading room for parents to read to their children will be installed along with lower bookcases that are more accessible for children and new carpeting.

The library’s regular children’s programs will restart on Friday, Jan. 23.

As a part of this renovation, the library is taking the precautionary step of abating asbestos that was found in old tiles and mastic underneath the existing carpeting. The Children’s Room has been tested and air quality and surfaces, such as bookcases and books, were found to be free of any asbestos. Air quality and surfaces will be retested at the conclusion of the work to ensure that the area is environmentally safe when the room reopens. The safety of the library’s patrons and staff is of paramount concern.

Further disruptions are not anticipated during the remainder of the renovation. The Michelman Room (the back room of the children’s area) will be open and staffed to provide limited children’s services. Patrons should enter through the upstairs adult area.

The library looks forward to welcoming the public to the new and improved Children’s Room for many years to come.
