Group Home Proposed in Ossining

We are part of The Trust Project
Cardinal McCloskey, a not-for-profit organization based in Westchester, is proposing a group home in the Town of Ossining that would house four autistic adults.

The Town of Ossining is considering a proposal that would see a group home for four autistic adults come to the town.

Cardinal McCloskey Services, a not-for-profit that has been in existence since 1946, will run the home, which is located on Locust Road. The home will not require any extensive renovations. The organization has 15 group homes in Westchester, and also provides early childhood homes in the Bronx.

The proposal was discussed at Tuesday’s town board meeting. The town has 40 days to respond to the proposal, and can either accept it, reject it, or propose an alternative site. If the town rejects the proposal, it would have to be because it would alter the character of the neighborhood. In the end, the State Office For People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) has the final call and can override the town.

The Village and Town of Ossining currently have seven group homes.

The four adults, two males and two females, are Westchester residents. Three of them are aged 21, with one close to turning 21. The four will be under constant supervision, with occasional visits from a nurse and psychologist.
