Greenburgh Resident Announces Challenge of Nonna
Saying that his district needs a representative whose first allegiance is to the community, Michael Smith officially announced his candidacy for Westchester County Legislator in District 3.
Smith, a 54-year old Greenburgh resident who previously served as president of the Board of Education in the Valhalla School District, announced his candidacy on Saturday at Mount Pleasant Town Hall flanked by family, supporters, Supervisor Joan Maybury and County Executive Robert Astorino.
Smith will challenge John Nonna (D-Pleasantville) who has represented the district since 2007. The 3rd District covers Pleasantville, Mount Pleasant, North Castle, and parts of Greenburgh and Sleepy Hollow.
“We deserve better,” Smith, a chief financial officer who has lived in Greenburgh for 16 years, said. “I’m not happy with what we are getting or what we are paying for. I am concerned about the future of Westchester County. We are at a crossroads.”
