Mt. Kisco Property Taxes Due Monday Despite Postal Snafu
At the prompting of Mount Kisco Mayor Michael Cindrich, the U.S. Postal Service is conducting an investigation into how the village’s property tax bills managed to be lost a couple of months ago.
Cindrich announced at the village board’s June 24 meeting that the White Plains Regional Processing Center, which lost the bills in May, was conducting an inquiry. Cindrich also said he did not know if the postal service would reimburse the village for the cost of printing duplicate tax bills. Replacement bills were mailed to residents on June 11.
Although duplicate bills were sent late, property owners must pay their taxes on time. Village officials have said if the bills are paid after this Monday’s deadline there would be penalties levied against the offenders.
Village Manager James Palmer said the tax receiver’s office in village hall will have extended hours this Monday, July 1. The office will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The property tax bills are due on July 1 because June 30 falls on a Sunday.
The postal service allowed Mount Kisco to send out the second batch of tax bills directly from the village without being sent to the processing center in White Plains.
