White Plains, Greenburgh School Budgets Pass

The White Plains School District budget 2014-15 passed Tuesday with 81.6 percent voting yes, 894 yay votes to 202 nays. Held within the tax cap, the $199,900,000 budget is 3.36 percent higher than 2013-14. New York State aid of about $3 million and pension costs that are beginning to level off because of improving investments helped keep the budget within the cap, according the the Superintendent’s office. The property tax rate is now $600.22, a $17.01 change per $1,000 of assessed value over 2013-14. In White Plains the assessed value of the average home is $15,000, the number used by the School District to calculate the tax rate. Incumbent School Board members Rosemarie Eller (929 votes) and Randy Stein (879) votes retained their seats.

Greenburgh Central School District voters passed a 63.3 million dollar budget with 671 yes votes to 342 nays. School Board incumbents Claudia Glaser (599) and Debra Campbell (604)  held their seats as Board Members. Cora Lena Carey received 402 votes and Jeff Barnes received 256 votes.
