Westlake Campus Fields to be Studied

We are part of The Trust Project

The Mount Pleasant School District will study the possibility of upgrading its athletic fields on the combined middle school/high school campus.

During the June 8 board of education work session, representatives from the Mount Kisco-based KG&D Architects came to discuss ways to renovate or replace the bleachers that accompany the Westlake campus field used for football and other sports. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Susan Guiney said $90,000 had been set aside in the district’s capital fund to deal with the bleaches and any additional funds for the project could come through fund-raising efforts from the district’s sports booster club.

Russell Davidson, the KG&D president, said his firm had been asked by the school board to study “what to do next with the bleachers” and they learned that the bleachers must be either fixed or replaced. It would cost the district $200,000 to replace the bleachers, which can now seat up to 540 people, he said. Davidson said it would cost about $120,000 to upgrade the bleachers. Part of the renovation plan for the bleachers would be to put an L-shaped ramp on the back to give individuals access to the seats.

But the district could look at more than just what to do with the bleachers, Davidson said. “There are more long term issues with the fields,” he said. Before deciding what to do with the bleachers, the district could come up with a plan for the fields, he said.

The trustees agreed with Davidson’s call for a fields study, Trustee Laurie Donato said replacing or renovating the bleaches before deciding what to do to improve the athletic fields on the campus would only be “a quick fix.”
