Westchester County Police Graduate 38

We are part of The Trust Project

imagesThirty-eight police recruits graduated May 24 from the Westchester County Police Academy and are headed off to work at 11 departments in Westchester and three other law enforcement agencies in the region.

The new officers, who completed 20 weeks of training at the police academy in Valhalla, received their diplomas during a ceremony at the Performing Arts Center of the State University of New York at Purchase.

County Executive Robert Astorino addressed the graduates of the 135th Session Basic Police Recruit Class and congratulated them for successfully completing the demanding academic and physical challenges they faced at the academy.

“These new officers are ready to deal with everything from routine investigations to incidents involving chemical, biological or radiological materials,” Astorino said. “They are mentally and physically prepared to hit the streets and protect the communities they have sworn to serve.”

Astorino continued: “Westchester County takes great pride in the Police Academy and its reputation for excellence. This Academy is a great model of a shared service that brings tremendous benefits to Westchester,” Astorino said. “The county runs the Police Academy, but we could not complete the mission without the support and participation of all our police chiefs and departments. This great partnership and collaboration makes sense for our municipalities and for our taxpayers.”

Public Safety Commissioner George N. Longworth welcomed the new police officers to the law enforcement community and said that many challenges were ahead.
