We are fortunate to live in a county that is home to many farmers markets. Luckier still to have several that run year-round. One that deserves more attention and traffic than it gets is in Mt. Kisco.

Run by Community Markets and located at the Boys and Girls Club on Main Street, winter hours are 9-1 on Saturdays. There is ample parking, and free coffee courtesy of Tierra Farms.

The market takes place in the gym and often has additional events going on such as chef demonstrations and tastings or a musician. A favorite feature is the “recipe tree” which is a rotating rack containing free recipe cards to give shoppers new ideas on using the fresh produce they just purchased.

While there are not dozens of vendors, the available selection is still ample. There are two baked goods vendors, Bread Alone and Meredith’s Bread, who sell breads of all kinds, cookies, pastries, pies, quiche and more.  John Boy’s Farm sells various poultry, eggs, smoked fish, pork, and sausage.  Tierra Farms has their huge assortment of organic and flavored nuts, and Migliorelli and Newgate Farms carry a bounty of fruit and vegetables.  Trotta’s Foods has delicious sauces and fresh pasta in a dizzying array of shapes and colors, and The Amazing Real Live Food Company carries tasty cheeses, yogurt, milk, and my personal favorite, flavored butters (like cinnamon french toast!) Revolving vendors include Horman’s Best Pickles, and wine sellers. New but gaining a following quickly is my table, which sells heat and eat meals that vary weekly because I will only buy and use the freshest prime ingredients available. Locally sourced and made around the corner at my commercial kitchen, they are tasty, healthy, fresh and convenient slow food when you’re in a hurry.

If you haven’t visited this market lately, come back and check it out. Stop by my table and say hello! If you have never been, I hope you will consider coming to see for yourself that bigger isn’t always better.

Kisco.  These meals are currently available at the Boys and Girls club on Main St at the farmers’ market on Saturday.  Take-out hot lunch service weekdays from 11-3 will begin April 5 out of the kitchen on Lexington (formerly Jennifer’s Kitchen).
