Russ Tompkins, left, with Legislator John Nonna.

Russ Tompkins, 91, was honored Wednesday night for his 70 years in the Pioneer Hook & Ladder Company of the Pleasantville Fire Department.

The longtime Pleasantville resident, a veteran member of the Pleasantville Rotary and founding member of the Pleasantville Ambulance Corps, is the senior member of the department.

More than two dozen admirers, including firefighters, family and friends, joined Tompkins at the monthly meeting of the Pioneer Hook & Ladder Company where he was presented with proclamations from Westchester County Legislator John Nonna (above right), Pleasantville Mayor Peter Scherer and Mount Pleasant Town Board member Peter J. DeMilio, who was representing Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Joan Maybury.

Scherer also presented Tompkins with the sign previously used to mark Tompkins Avenue in Pleasantville. The street is named after Tompkins’ family.
