“I know that Mr. Burruano will provide the exemplary educational leadership that will move our high school to the next level,” Putnam Valley Superintendent Barbara Fuchs said in a press release Friday morning.

The Putnam Valley School Board voted 5-0 at its Feb. 3 meeting to make Burruano, a Garrison resident, the principal for the long haul.

“He’s moving our high school in the right direction. He’s a wonderful leader on so many levels,” School Board President Valerie Fitzgerald said. “We really need to some stability in our high school. We’ve had a lot of change over the last four or five years.”

The board originally appointed Burruano, the principal of Peekskill High School from 2003 to 2010, at its Aug. 19 business meeting, shortly after Jonathan Bryant resigned from the position. At the time, Burruano’s appointment was seen as temporary until the board could find someone to fill the position. After seeing him work well with the students and faculty, the board asked him if he’d be interested in staying on, Fitzgerald said.
