The superintendent of the Putnam Valley Central School District, Dr. Barbara Nuzzi, has announced she will be stepping down at the end of the school year to become the next superintendent of the Tuckahoe Union Free School District starting on August 1.

Nuzzi issued a statement to parents at teachers, which read in part, “I have grown as a leader because of all the experiences I have had working with each of you. The personal connections that I have made are something I will cherish forever. Putnam Valley is a special place. I know that you will continue to ‘build a foundation for the future’ for our incredible students.”

Nuzzi serves as superintendent of schools as well as the assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and personnel in the Putnam Valley Central School District.  She’s been with the district for the past nine years and has served as superintendent for the past two.

Nuzzi has reached agreement on a 3 year contract with the Tuckahoe School District.  Her salary will be $235,000 per year. She was selected from a pool of 225 applicants, according to the Tuckahoe Board of Education.

The Tuckahoe Union Free School District Board of Education is slated to vote on Nuzzi’s appointment during a special meeting on May 7. The meeting will be followed by a meet and greet where Nuzzi will discuss her goals with district parents and personnel.

Putnam Valley Board of Education Trustee, Joseph Ferraro, said the board met in executive session Tuesday night to begin the discussion regarding a successor to Nuzzi.  He says the panel is hoping to name an interim superintendent to handle the duties and plans to reach out to BOCES to begin the search process.

Nuzzi’s resignation is the latest personnel change the Board of Education is dealing with. Putnam Valley Elementary School Pricipal Jamie Edelman is leaving at the end of the school year to take over as principal of Douglas Grafflin Elementary School in Chappaqua and the board is searching for her successor as well.

Said Ferraro, “We are making sure we are in constant communication with school staff to ensure a smooth transition. Parents should be assured there will be no gaps in moving the educational process forward.”
