Hall Won’t Run Again for House Seat
Former Congressman John Hall, a Democrat who lost his bid for a third term last November, won’t look to return to his seat in the 2012 election.
Hall, who served in New York’s 19th Congressional district from 2007 to 2010, said Tuesday he does not plan to challenge Rep. Nan Hayworth, a Republican, for his former seat.
“Having spent ten years of my life in elective office, and having family duties that include taking care of my 90-year-old parents and spending more time at home with my wife Pamela and extended family, I have decided not to run for reelection to New York’s 19th Congressional seat,” Hall said in a press release. “This does not mean that I am happy with my successor, Nan Hayworth.”
Hall, who co-founded the 1970s rock band “Orleans,” has returned to his musical roots since leaving politics. Hall has been recording new songs and performing live as a solo artist and with Orleans, he said.
“Right now, I am returning to the relatively honest and straightforward business of music,” Hall said. “When my parents told me to make sure I had something to fall back on, they never knew it would be the guitar.”
Hall added that he would work with Democrats in the congressional district to find the best candidate to challenge Hayworth.
