Carmel Man Charged with Unlawful Possession of Weapons

A Carmel man was charged by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department last week with possession of unlawful firearms and other devices following a month-long investigation.

According to Putnam Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr., the Narcotic Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant on Dec. 2 at a Carmel residence as officers probed the manufacture, sale and possession of unlawful firearms in the Mahopac area.

Seize from the residence were 10 unlawfully possessed pistols, one assault rifle, 67 large capacity ammunition feeding devices, and tools and parts to make more than 20 additional firearms. Only one of the firearms had a serial number inscribed on it.

David Goldberg Jr., 23, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Dangerous Weapon in the First Degree, Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (two counts), Criminal Possession of a Firearm (10 counts), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

Goldberg Jr. was arraigned in Town of Carmel Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.

The PCSO Road Patrol, Identification and Forensic Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Town of Carmel Police Department, FBI Westchester County Safe Streets Task Force, and the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
