It is named Spirelli Electric and it takes more than one Spirelli to run the Shrub Oak-based business.

Mahopac resident Pat Spirelli Jr., who is the business’’ vice president, served as the spokesman for the family last week.

Pat Spirelli Sr., who lives in Shrub Oak, owns the business and Joe Spirelli, who also resides in Shrub Oak, works as an electrician, Spirelli Sr.’s wife, Linda, formerly worked in the business offices for businesses he owned for about 30 years.

Spirelli Jr. said he is responsible for “maintaining the office.”  His tasks include invoicing and billing. The family formerly lived in Yorktown Heights.

“We’re electrical contractors. We do everything from screwing in light bulbs for homeowners to big commercial projects,” Pat Spirelli Jr. explained. “We have a service department that services homeowners on a daily basis. We have a commercial department that’s doing large projects, like Bed Bath and Beyond, Planet Fitness, (and) Pet Smart out in the field, anywhere from Putnam, Connecticut, New York City and Westchester.”

While electric companies typically work with homeowners and business owners, Spirelli Electric has created its own system to deal with various projects, Spirelli said. “We have departmentalized it into teams,” he said. “So we have a team of residential people who talk to the customers on a daily basis, that go to their houses with a stock truck and take care of anything they want electrically.”

“We have another department that is doing estimates for large general contractors and customers on big projects,” Spirelli said. “There are more guys on the commercial side than the residential side.”

Spirelli Electric has been open since 1999. “My father has been in the business for over 40 years in the Westchester area,” Spirelli Jr. said. “In 1994 he sold the business that he was running. We moved down to Florida.”

“We were down there for a while and slowly but surely we all started coming back up north and he reopened the business,” Spirelli added. “He loves working. He lovers the electrical industry”

Spirelli said he enjoys working in a family-owned business. He enjoys the atmosphere and “the ability that we could do it ourselves and control things and my dad was always successful.”

Spirelli said one of the reasons the Shrub Oak location was chosen was its closeness to the Taconic State Parkway. “It was kind of a distressed building,” he said. “It just happened to be a good investment at the time.”

“The goal is to just keep growing and servicing customers,” Spirelli said. “We try to make our customers happy. That is our main goal.”

The Spirelli family formerly lived on the second floor of their building. “It was always that family atmosphere. They were very close to the shop in the office,” Spirelli said.

When their father retires, “My brother and I are going to hopefully carry on for another 40 years,” Spirelli said.

Spirelli Electric is located at 990 E. Main St. in Shrub Oak. For more information, call 914-455-2158, send an e-mail to Patjr@Spirellielectric.com or visit http://www.spirellielectric.com/Home_Page.html.
