Summer is only weeks away, which means it will soon be bathing suit season. This is the time that many people start going into fitness overload. They work out for hours a day, almost every day. According to Michael Lipowski, the founder of Pure Physique and author of “PURE PHYSIQUE: How to Maximize Fat-loss & Muscular Development,” there is a better, more efficient way of training.

“Under the PURE PHYSIQUE program workouts are only a half-hour and our clients train only 2-3 times per week,” said Lipowski, “yet they achieve results that are equal to, and often better than, people who exercise an hour or more, four to six times a week.”

The Pure Physique training studio is located at 3695 Old Yorktown Rd in Shrub Oak and its trainers follow the guidelines of the International Association of Resistance Trainers (IART), which is a personal training certification and advanced exercise education company.

Lipowski is considered an expert in the time-efficient exercise.  He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a B.A. in Physical Education and is the president of IART. He has also been a contributing writer for, and featured in, several health and fitness magazines, fitness books, newspapers, and websites.

In 2009, Lipowski was the personal trainer for Men’s Fitness magazine’s Fat-to-Fit Challenge winner.  And, in 2010, he was named one of Westchester’s “40 Rising Stars Under 40” by the Westchester Business Council.

While most people who train are Pure Physique are busy professionals, parents and those seeking to achieve optimal results with little time investment it also has strong ties to the natural bodybuilding and figure community.

Recently, Lipowski became a co-founder of the DFAC, Drug Free Athletes Coalition (www.drugfreeathletescoalition.com).

“I’m a strong advocate of people, especially young people, steering clear of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs and have often presented at schools as well as worked with athletes on building muscle and strength naturally through proper training and nutrition,” said Lipowski. “I myself am a competitive professional natural bodybuilder and I’ve written for several natural bodybuilding magazines over the years and coached other natural bodybuilders and figure competitors including my girlfriend who is currently preparing for shows this summer along with me.”

On Wednesday, May 26, DRAC will be hosting the PURE PHYSIQUE Natural New York Bodybuilding & Figure Championships at Irvington High School Theater. The event will include bodybuilding and women’s figure, as well as a women’s beach body bikini division.

“We would like to invite everyone to come out and support the competitors and witness the incredible results that can be achieved through natural means,” said Lipowski.

In the past five years, Lipowski has accomplished a lot through the Shrub Oak studio, but he recently had a moment that gave him a true sense of fulfillment.

“I was getting ready to train a client when a gentleman in his late 40s walked into the studio,” Lipowski recalled. “I didn’t recognize him so I assumed he was here to ask about our program, but then I noticed he was holding a copy of my book in his hand.  He introduced himself and told me he had driven about four hours from upstate to see if I would sign the book.”

Lipowski did and the two started talking.  “He explained that over the course of the last two years he had lost more than 80 pounds, which was essential for health-related reasons.  He said that the book played a huge role in teaching him how to properly exercise and diet, as well as kept him motivated,” Lipowski said.  “I was floored.  For him to come so far out of his way to tell me the impact my book had on his health and well-being gave me an amazing feeling.”

Lipowski is proud that his book, “PURE PHYSIQUE: How to MAXIMIZE Fat-loss and Muscular Development,” provides real world solutions to training, nutrition and mental roadblocks and dispels many of the myths surrounding fitness and physique development.
