Lois Winkler was appointed president of the Pleasantville Board of Education, with Tom Exton being named vice president, at the panel’s reorganization meeting.

Lois Winkler was appointed Pleasantville Board of Education president at tonight's school board meeting. Winkler has served on the board since 1999.

Winkler, who is the longest serving board member having started her service in 1999, was elected to a 5th term in May. Exton, who served as vice president last year, declined the position of president due to his job.

Winkler is replacing Sol Skolnick, who declined to seek reelection.

Winkler and Exton were approved with a 4-1 vote.

Trustee Shane McGaffey opposed their appointments because of concerns about board protocols that allow only the board president to speak to the superintendent and to the press.
