The Mount Pleasant Police Department is asking the public for help in catching a man who robbed a Chase Bank in Thornwood on Friday afternoon.

Police said a male with a beard and dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans, sunglasses and gloves entered the branch at 10 Marble Ave. at about 1 p.m. and demanded cash. No weapon was displayed.

The tellers complied with the robber’s demand. The suspect, who was seen by himself in the bank, fled the scene on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

The bank was closed for the remainder of the day as investigators scoured the scene searching for evidence. Neighboring law enforcement agencies were asked to assist in the investigation. The FBI also responded to the scene and is assisting Mount Pleasant police.

Police described the robber as in his late twenties to mid-thirties and standing about 5-foot-6 with a medium build.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery or may have seen a suspicious subject, vehicle or activity is being asked to call the Mount Pleasant Police Department’s Detective Division at 914-769-1941.
