On July 23 about 3 p.m., police arrested a Bronx man and his son in connection with a string of bicycle thefts at the Harrison Train Station as well as stations along the New Haven railroad line. Harrison detectives said as many as 100 bicycle thefts have been reported at stations along the Metro North line in recent weeks. Charged were Dennis Bardel, 55, and his son,

Jamar Douglas, 39, also of the Bronx. They were caught by plainclothes Harrison police officers while attempted to steal a “Trek” mountain bike at the Harrison Train Station. Police said they also recovered a stolen bicycle from a vehicle operated by Douglas. Both suspects have extensive criminal histories including violent felony convictions and numerous arrests for property thefts, according to police. They were charged with petit larcency, criminal possession of stolen property and one count of conspiracy. Bardel was additionally charged with possessing burglar tools. They were held in Westchester County Jail pending an appearance in Harrison Town Court on July 29.
