Peekskill Halloween Ball Oct. 29 to Benefit Fight Against Pipeline

We are part of The Trust Project

All treats and no tricks are to be had with a magical evening to benefit local organizations in their fight against the Spectra pipeline. The Peekskill Halloween Ball, featuring local MC and City Council member Andre “Noodle” Rainey, will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 7 p.m. in the newly restored Dramatic Hall, 900 Main Street, Peekskill.

The first public event being held at the historic hall since it’s reopening includes a costume ball, film screening of “We Are the Hartman’s” and concert all to benefit environmental advocacy groups SEnRG, SAPE and ResistSpectra.

“This event is another way for us to bring community attention to the dangerous pipeline being built in our backyard,” commented SEnRG President Nancy Vann. “Stopping the pipeline is an urgent priority since it would run 105 feet from safety facilities at Indian Point and greatly increases the risk of a major and potentially deadly accident there.”

The schedule for the spooktacular evening to fight Spectra, kicks off at 7 with a fifth anniversary screening of “We Are the Hartman’s,” a feature comedy filmed partially in Peekskill, starring Richard Chamberlain (Thorn Birds, Dr. Kildaire), Jennifer Restivo and Ben Curtis (the Dell Dude). The event marks the first time the film has even been screened in Peekskill and will be attended by the film’s director, Laura Newman and actor, Ben Curtis.

“I feel so much gratitude toward the city and people of Peekskill. It was a wonderful location for our modern day love story about a small town fighting cultural and economic take over,” said Newman. “I’m proud that the film is now playing a role in this community’s important fight against the pipeline.”

At 9, DJ Noodle Noo takes the stage with live music to dance the night away. Guests will have the opportunity to win great raffle prizes and take part in an exciting silent auction. Tickets are $15 in advance at www.senrg.org or $20 at the door.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have all asked FERC (the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) for pipeline construction to stop while a safety study is done. The pipeline expansion is being challenged in U.S. Federal court and in rallies, protests, and acts of civil disobedience. The Peekskill Halloween Ball aims to raise funding for this important community cause.

All proceeds will go toward the Safe Energy Rights Group (SEnRG) fund for ResistSpectra, a coalition of groups and concerned citizens who are fighting the construction of Spectra Energy’s AIM pipeline expansion.

SEnRG, a non-profit organization, is a group of engaged citizens working together to protect communities in the Northeast from unsafe energy development and infrastructure. We employ our experience and professional expertise to assist those impacted by harmful fossil fuel projects in exercising their rights to safe, sustainable energy. Our goal is to provide credible information and support to ensure that communities of all sizes can protect their health and safety. To this end, we assist citizens in taking social, legal, and political action as they demand meaningful dialogue and adherence to the law from elected officials and permitting agencies.
