Miss New York/New York Teen USA Pageant this Weekend

imgresThe 2013 Miss New York USA and Miss New York Teen USA Competition will be held at The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College in Purchase on Jan.19 and 20. The two-day pageant will feature 200 girls competing in three categories, swimsuit, evening gown and interview, all vying for the 2013 title.

The panel of judges selected for the event by Keith Lewis and Keylee Sanders, Co-Executive Directors of K2 Productions a franchise under the Miss Universe Organization include: Aja Mangum, New York Beauty & Fashion Editor and Westchester Native, Alyssa Shelasky, author of critically acclaimed Apron Anxiety: My Messy Affairs In and Out of the Kitchen and food writer, Claudine DeSola, owner of Caravan Stylist Studio in NYC, Darius Baptist, celebrity stylist and fashion editor of YRB Magazine, Erika Shay, former Miss and owner of ESP Wellness Center, Evan Starkman, MTV personality and host of Cosmo TV’s Love Trap, Hestar Prynn, DJ, TV Host, the Face of Fashion Designer Daryl K previous collection and currently writes a column in Paper Magazine, Jennifer Peros, Reporter at US Weekly, Jenny Depper, Yahoo! Shine Editor, Matt Levine, NYC Restaurateur, Owner of Cocktail Bodega, Sons of Essex and The Rowhouse Inn

Michelle Park, Co-host of a brand new show on MSG Varsity, owned and operated by Madison Square Garden, Inc., called Please Dress Accordingly, and Nigel Sylvester, Professional BMX Rider.

In a media release announcing the judges selection producers of the event said judging criteria includes character, poise, confidence and personality.

K2 Productions chose famed Project Runway designer, Joshua McKinley, to spearhead the runway portion of the program.  McKinley’s challenge is to choose a theme and design for 40 ladies with absolutely no fit time.  The Top 20, in both Miss and Teen categories, chosen during finals night will wear McKinley’s designs to see who will be “in” and who will be “out”.   When McKinley was asked what he thought of this challenge, he simply stated, “Eat your heart out USA!”

Celebrity makeup artist Meaghan Hester, Westchester native, and contestant on this upcoming season’s Syfy Channel’s Face Off will complete the runway.  Hester’s team will be there to ensure the contestants put their best face forward.

Julissa Bermudez, from Style Network’s Empire Girls, and the current Miss New York Teen USA, Sabrina Mastrangelo will co-host the Preliminary show, Jan. 19th at 7 p.m.  Hosts for finals night, Jan. 20th at 4 p.m., will be Susie Castillo, former Miss USA® and Julissa Bermudez.

New to this year’s pageant, fans from around the world can ask Final Questions via twitter by using #MissNYUSA.  Ten questions (5 for Miss and 5 for Teens) will be selected for the show and will be read along with corresponding twitter handles on stage during the final portion of the show.  The evening will conclude with Johanna Sambucini, Miss New York USA and Sabrina Mastrangelo, Miss New York Teen USA, crowning their successors.

The winner of the Miss New York USA pageant will go on to compete in NBC and Donald Trump’s Miss USA pageant, the precursor to the Miss Universe pageant.
