On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 18, free concerts, book readings and for children: arts & crafts, story time and sing-a-long all presented by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Library at Barnes & Noble City Center, White Plains.

The schedule of free events, presented by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Library:

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Arts & Crafts and reading to children.

11 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Zetta Elliott, author of acclaimed Bird (2-6 grade); Ship of Souls, and A Wish After Midnight (young adult) talks about and autographs her books.

12 to 1:30 p.m. – Prof. R.A. Ptahsen-Shabazz, author of Black to the Roots: Reggae’s Rise, Downpression and Reascension, discusses and autographs his book.

1:30 to 2:30 p.m. – Concert: Ptah Djembe Drummers.

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. – Concert: pianists from Studio Senakwami.

3:30 to 3:45 p.m. – Storytime for children.

3:45 to 4 p.m. – Sing-a-long for children.

4 to 6 p.m. – Concert: pianists from Studio Senakwami.

These events are part of a fundraiser: for everyone who makes a purchase at any Barnes & Noble on Jan. 18 and gives our the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Library’s Bookfair ID, 11786340, Barnes & Noble will make a donation to the Library.

This fundraiser will raise money to buy books and films for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Library, located at 250 Bryant Ave. (Memorial United Methodist Church), White Plains. The library is free and open to the public and has unusual and important books and films for adults and children on subjects such as nonviolence and anti-racism, Dr. King and other great peacemakers, African-American history and more.
