Mahopac Library Budget Approved by Voters

With a noticeably low turnout, voters approved the Mahopac Public Library budget with ease on June 3.

Passing the budget 320-77, library director Michelle Capozella expressed thanks to the community the morning after the vote, noting she didn’t know what to expect from the process because it was her first budget season since becoming the director last fall.

“To go through the whole process from beginning to end was interesting and exciting” she said. “I’m really happy. It was a pretty big margin.”

Depending on costs anticipated, Capozella said she tried to put increases where it was necessary. She did note though, if the library underspends its budget, that money carries over to the next year.

“We don’t spend to just spend the budget,” she said.

Three trustees were also voted in for three open spots. Two incumbent Alice Walsh and Tom Honohan were reelected and Lee Markowitz was elected for his first term
