Franks Nursery Bid Postponed, Environmental Issues Cited

It was full steam ahead in Greenburgh for the past several weeks as over 60 bidders professed their interest in purchasing the 6.89 acre site, formerly Franks Nursery at 715 Dobbs Ferry Road, according to communications received by the Town from its real estate advisor GA Keen Realty Advisors, LLC.

The site is zoned R-30/R-40 with uses including single-family residences and assisted living facilities. The auction was set for November 5.

In a special meeting of the Town Board late last month, the auction was postponed according to a communication from Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, when Harold Bordwin, the co-president of Keen Realty, advised the Board that the feedback he and his team had received from prospective bidders included significant reservations about the environmental condition of the property.

“Mr. Bordwin stated that many prospective bidders indicated that they would not bid or that they would bid a nominal amount in order to account for the unquantifiable environmental remediation costs at the site. Based upon that market feedback, Bordwin recommended that the Town suspend the auction and not receive bids for the property, pending the results of further environmental studies,” Feiner said in an email.

Based on this information, the auction was suspended, no further bids will be accepted and the Town’s environmental engineering firm has been engaged to complete further environmental studies.
