By Kerry Barger – The Town of New Castle got the party started a bit early during its Aug. 11 work session, as the board took a moment to celebrate the upcoming 100th birthday of Chappaqua resident Esther Miller.

Flanked by close friends and family, Miller was presented with a Westchester County proclamation by a representative sent on behalf of county legislator Michael Kaplowitz. Miller, who turns 100 on Aug. 19, was honored for her many accomplishments, including a “Best Athlete” award in high school and numerous golf championships she won with her late husband, David.

Kaplowitz also dubbed Aug. 19th, 2015 as “Esther Miller Day” in Westchester County. The centenarian’s name will be visible on the Jumbotron outside the Westchester County Center throughout the day.

In Chappaqua, Miller will be celebrated the entire month of August.

“Here in New Castle–Westchester will give you a day, we’re going to give you a whole month, Greenstein said. “The month of August, 2015.”

Miller, who also counts tennis as a hobby, is an avid bridge player at the New Castle Community Center.
