We are part of The Trust Project

Acting on the recommendations of Chief Michael Cazzari, the Carmel Town Board unanimously made two police promotions permanent on May 21.

carmel front page Michael Nagel was appointed as detective sergeant and Stephen Kunze was appointed as a detective. Following the meeting, Supervisor Kenneth Schmitt said both men have worked for the department for several years.

Nagel is receiving an annual salary of $107,627 and Kunze salary is $97,649.

Cazzari praised Nagel and Kunze in his recent memorandums to the town board.

When Nagel was appointed to his post on a provisional basis in April 2013 “he took on the responsibility of our detective bureau with a dedication to duty and professionalism that is second to none,” Cazzari stated. “Nagel’s leadership has been seen throughout the work done by our detectives. From the major crimes that have been solved, to the attention to detail that he brings on each and every case, I feel proud to recommend the permanent appointment of such a fine officer.”

In another memo to the board, Cazzari wrote that Kunze “is the type of hardworking officer that every police administrator wants working for him or her. From his time working narcotics cases with our special conditions unit to all the fine work he has done as a patrol officer and a detective, I feel proud to recommend the permanent appointment of such a fine officer.”
