Business Profile: Storage Town, Yorktown

We are part of The Trust Project

Nov. 5 NWE BOW PixDenise  Beyer said Storage Town, which recently opened on Front Street in Yorktown, is part of the parent company, Men on the Move, a storage and moving business based in Long Island.

Storage Town has “the same quality and service” as Men on the Move, Beyer said last week “The only thing that’s different is the name. On Long Island we’re very well known. We have a great reputation. Men on the Move is everywhere; we have 20 trucks. We have five storage facilities. And here in Westchester, Men on the Move isn’t as well know because we do most of our business further south. So we wanted to name this facility with a name that was more appropriate for storage.”

Beyer, who lives in Manhattan, is director of self storage development for Men on the Move. She explained while the main business of Storage Town is storage, the company does provide for free a truck with a driver for moving items.

Beyer said she Front Street location was chosen because it was set up as a storage facility. “It changed hands and it was never really officially opened as a storage facility,” Beyer said. “Now after three years it’s open.”

StorageTown is about 40,000 square feet and has three floors. Beyer said her customers are allowed to store everything except toxic or combustible items or food.

“Everybody needs space,” Beyer said. “You have homeowners who are outgrowing their space. You have people who want to just store their Christmas decorations. You have businesses that run their businesses out of a storage facility and store all of their tools and whatnot and come by every day. You have people who sell rugs and they basically use their storage unit as their warehouse, store, everything.”

Storage Town also offers inexpensive lockers than can be used to store such items as documents and Christmas documents, Beyer noted.

Rentals are done by the month. “No long term commitment is necessary,” she said. “We have discounts to move in. You’re only paying half of the rate for the unit for the first two months.”

Storage Town is the latest addition to the family business, Beyer said. “My brother (John Beyer) opened a moving company about 28 years ago and out of that grew storage,” Beyer said. She has been working for her brother for about the past 15 years after formerly working in real estate for a large company that built apartments. “This is very similar because we’re renting out spaces, storage space instead of apartments,” she said. “We just don’t have kitchens or bathrooms included in the space.”

Beyer discussed some of her goals for her new business. “We want to fill it up as quickly as possible,” she said. “We want the people of  Yorktown to know that we are not a big chain. We are family. We are a family run business and you give a whole different level of service and attention when you’re a family run business.”

“Our tagline is Service with Integrity,” Beyer added. “You get value and we always do the right thing.”
