Bronx resident Skender Ademi and his partners opened 202 Steakhouse in Yorktown about five months ago as an eatery that while specializing in high quality steaks also has a wide range of other culinary offerings.

Ademi said last week northern Westchester does not have “that New York City dining experience” that his steakhouse offers, he said, adding the restaurant is a casual place.

The restaurant offers fish, pastas, burgers, chicken and a children’s menu. “There are more choices because not everybody can eat steak.” Ademi said.

Ademi said he has worked in the restaurant business for many years and owning his first restaurant was in keeping with his career experience. “You go where you know,” he said. In the past, Ademi was a server and a bartender and now he does most of the cooking at his new restaurant.

Though there are several food options at 202 Steakhouse, steaks are the culinary stars, being the most popular menu items, he said. The steaks are “prime dry aged,” as are the steaks served at prominent New York City steakhouses, he said. Ademi, who had experience working in steakhouses prior to opening the new restaurant, said his steaks are cooked at 500 degrees and are seasoned properly with salt and pepper.

Other popular items include crab cakes, grilled octopus and seafood pasta. The restaurant also offers a Sunday brunch buffet.

Ademi stressed the importance of maintaining high quality consistently in the food offered at his restaurant, as well as providing top notch service to his customers. Ademi personally shops for the food served at 202 Steakhouse, which is “just part of the job,” he said. Most of the food is purchased from local sources, he noted.

202 Somers Bar and Grill formerly occupied the building, which did not provide as many appetizers and steak options that his new restaurant does, Ademi said. “People got used to a different menu,” but now the new eatery is becoming more popular as customers are getting used to the new menu, he said. About half of the menu from the former establishment, including burgers, is still available.

Ademi said one of the goals of he and his partners is “to be established” in the area, maintain its high standards and have a warm relationship with their customers.

202 Steakhouse is located 2 Old Tomahawk St. in Yorktown. For more information, call 914-248-8100 or visit 202Steakhouse.com. The restaurant also has a Facebook page.
