Basketball Shootout Helps Local Nonprofits Raise Funds

We are part of The Trust Project

Raising money for an organization, agency, sport’s team, church, other non-profit group, or community project just got a little bit easier. The Carmel Rotary and Carmel High School Interact Club’s 6th Annual Basketball Shootout can help groups fundraise. This year the shootout will be held on Saturday March 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at Carmel High School, Fair Street, Carmel.

“This is an opportunity to raise money at a quick, easy, fun event that will only take about 15 minutes of your time to shoot the hoops,” said Rotarian Al Lotrecchiano, who co-chairs the event with Rotarian Mike McDonough. Any individual or group can obtain a pledge form from Carmel Rotary and enlist signatures of those willing to sponsor the basketball shooter either with a flat donation or a per basket amount.

Then at the shootout each participant is given two minutes to shoot baskets via lay-up style.

The pledge proceeds are shared with 80 percent going to the sponsored organization and 20 percent to Carmel Rotary which helps support their high school scholarship program.

Since 2008, 66 local organizations have raised approximately $66,000.

Carmel Rotary is offering businesses additional ways to support the shootout and gain some exposure.

“Businesses, individuals, and organizations can become Basketball Shootout Sponsors,” said Lotrecchiano. “The sponsors’ name will be displayed on the back of the shirt that is given to every participant, and will also be printed on a large banner displayed at the event.  After the event the banner will be permanently hung at George’s Place, a local restaurant in Carmel, where Rotary holds its weekly meetings.”

Sponsor donation checks should be made out to the Carmel Rotary Foundation and must be received by March 6th.

To make it easier for anyone interested in supporting Carmel Rotary this year, a new website has been established that will allow you to donate on line at: www.crowdrise.com/rotaryclubofcarmelny.  Under ‘Fundraisers‘, click on ‘Community Basketball Shootout’, then click on ‘Donate’ and follow the instructions.  (All other participating organizations can also create their own fundraising page.)

If a participating organization would like to have a presence at the event, Carmel Rotary will have tables available for a display to promote their group.  If interested – please notify Carmel Rotary before March 1 to allow adequate space.
