The Harrison High field hockey team came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit and scored twice in the second half to claim a 2-1 victory over host Pelham in a league game played last Wednesday.

Nell O’Rourke gave the Pelicans a 1-0 lead with 13:57 remaining in the first half, and the score stood at the break.

But in the final 15 minutes of the game, Harrison managed a comeback.

Elisa Arcara tied the game up with her goal with 14:02 left on the clock, and Grace Manning took a pass from Christine Cardascia and scored the game-winner with 8:30 showing, converting off a corner

Christina Decarlo came up with eight saves in net for Harrison, while Lindsay McNamara stopped seven shot on goal for Pelham.

“The girls did a good job,” Huskies coach Sara Witmer said. “We’ve been focusing on a lot of the things we’ve talked about… we did a nice job moving the ball.”

Witmer said that despite the halftime deficit, she felt her team was doing the right things, for the most part.

“I thought we played well in the first half,” she said. “But they capitalized on a corner, and we didn’t execute on our opportunities. But in the second half we were able to do that better. Arcara, at center back, did a nice job for us, and Manning had a good game at center mid. Lea Sarmiento at right mid, also played a strong game for us.”

Harrison improved to 3-5-1 overall, and 2-3 in league play, with the win.

“I think we’re getting better with each game,” Witmer said of the team’s progress. “We’re trying to keep up and motivated all game long, and now I think we’ll pick it up for the rest of the season.”

Harrison was set to travel to Ursuline today (Tuesday) for a 4:15 p.m. game and the Huskies face Clarkstown South Thursday at home at 4:15.
